Guest Interview by L.R. Wright

Author L. R. Wright is my guest today. She'll be interviewing Alejandro (Dro) Martinez a character in her soon to be released novel Basement Level 5: Never Scared.

Alexa Martinez was raised to believe that murder, deceit, and lies were a part of life. A trained killer, she follows in her father’s footsteps, specializing in political assassinations for Martinez Security—contracted through the CIA. She thrives on the power, money, respect, and—most of all—the adrenaline rush.

Despite the danger associated with her profession, Alexa strives to give her children a normal life. But when her past catches up with her, they become pawns in a deadly game of revenge. Operating from a secret base five levels below ground, Alexa struggles to unravel the puzzle, uncovering secrets that will alter their lives forever. Now she must make a choice—is she willing to die to give her children a life outside the bullet proof glass?

We're interviewing Alejandro Martinez today.  I'm actually surprised he granted the interview as he doesn't do much press.  But it is an honor to be able to chat with him today.

Hi Mr. Martinez!  I'm glad you agreed to talk today!  We interviewed Alexa recently.
Yes, she told me.  Thanks for inviting me!

Give me two words to describe yourself.
Lex would call me bossy.  But I guess you could say...confident.  Serious.

Speaking of bossy.  Your family calls you Jefe.  What's that about?
It means "the boss".  When we were younger, they used to call me that because I was groomed to take over the Martinez Organization.  It was harmless back then, but I did use it a few times for business.

Would you say you were bossy?
I can be.

If you could pick one person, who has had the greatest impact on your life?
Enrique, my father.  I guess you could say we had a love/hate relationship.  I couldn't stand him, but he had the greatest impact on me.  I never wanted to be like him, so I worked hard to distance myself from him.

And Alexa... when did you realize she was the one for you?
When my father told me that he wanted us to get married.  I was ten-years-old.

So it was sort of an arranged relationship?
Not really.  My father always told me I didn't have to marry her if I didn't want to.  But I always knew I would.

When did you fall in love with her?
I would have to say I didn't realize it was love.  You know, I never believed in it.  I never wanted any part of that.  But with Alexa... it was easy to love her.  For one, I already loved her.  We've been a part of each other's lives forever.  She has a way of endearing herself to you.  She just got to me.  And then suddenly, I knew I couldn't live without her.

One of the things I noticed about you was your fierce loyalty to your family.  Alexa had so many wonderful things to say about you, but what do you want people to remember about you?
I hope they remember that sometimes you have to make the hard decisions in order to save your family.  And I hope the people I love will always know that I made the decisions I made in order to help make their life better.  I want my children to know that I've done everything I could to give them a good life.

Rapid Fire Questions:

Favorite Song? Don't have one.
Favorite Movie? Godfather Part 2
Favorite Season? Fall
Favorite Food? Arroz con Pollo.  My mother used to make and Alexa perfected it.
Favorite Vacation Spot? Puerto Rico
Any parting words? No
