Half Inch by McCarty Griffin
When a woman's fed up, there really is nothing you can do about it. How far will a woman go to try and gain her freedom?
Pammy has had enough of Bobby, her abusive drunk of a husband. One lovely spring day, she decides to kill him, despite the fact that they will soon be divorced and he will, at least in the eyes of the law, be out of her life for good. Indulging in homicidal daydreams for years has led her to devise her own perfect and completely bizarre plan.
Bobby has abused Pammy for a very long time. Even while in the midst of divorce proceedings he still manages to find a way to torment her. She's endured his abuse for far too long and she is sure that getting divorced (which was his idea by the way) will not stop the abuse. After all these years, Pammy has finally had enough, she has dreamed up a way to get Bobby out of her life, once and for all.
Half Inch is a dark novella that chronicles the life of an abused woman. While we are all capable of unspeakable acts, most of us will never be pushed to the point of execution. But imagine feeling trapped in your own life by someone who once promised to love, honor, and cherish you. Domestic violence is a sad reality for millions of people. McCarty Griffin offers a candid glimpse into the chaotic, fearful world of an abused woman.
When I finished Half Inch, it didn't feel at all like a novella. Griffin does a splendid job in telling a short story with long detail. I really enjoyed it and I think you will too!
I give it:
