unPLANNED DVD - Abby Johnson ~ Review & Giveaway

About unPLANNED:
Abby Johnson quit her job in October 2009. That simple act became a national news story because Abby was director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas who, not long after assisting in an actual abortion procedure for the first time, cross the line to join the Coalition for Life.

What happened in that clinic to cause this Planned Parenthood leader and Employee of the Year to take such drastic action? And how did Planned Parenthood react to her abrupt departure? Join Abby as she reveals her full story for the first time in Unplanned:a heart-stopping personal drama of life-and-death encounters, a courtroom battle, and spiritual transformation. Abby’s unique vantage point from both sides of the abortion clinic property line shines light and compassion into the political controversy that surrounds this issue.

For anyone who cares about the life-versus-rights debate and helping women who face crisis pregnancies, Unplanned is a must-read.

Review:
Abby Johnson's journey is amazing, not so much because she is extraordinary, but because she has been on every side of the abortion argument.  As a young woman, she had two abortions and then went on to work for Planned Parenthood for eight years. It takes courage to work for such a controversial organization, but it's even more courageous to switch sides and work against it.

Unplanned is a very well made documentary, chronicling Abby's journey from childhood to present.  The abortion argument is always heated and never-ending, no matter which side you choose.  When I decided to review this documentary, I was well aware of which side of the argument Abby is currently on.  I only wish that there would have been a bit more information about the other services that Planned Parenthood provides - the services that are not abortion related.  I also would have liked there to have been a bit more accountability on Abby's part. I understand that she was young and impressionable, which may have had a lot to do with the fact that she began volunteering for Planned Parenthood in the first place.  But ultimately she made a decision to become involved, a decision that would continue for eight years.  Naturally a persuasive argument can cause one to gravitate to one side or the other, but it always comes down to a personal choice.  She chose to work for Planned Parenthood and when she knew better she did better...it's that simple.
